In The Light Of God by: Sis. Irene Spanogle
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. Ephesians 1:18
When a baby is born, he opens his eyes to a whole new world. He was alive many months before that day but had no concept whatsoever of the world into which he was about to enter. It is that way with us when we are born again. Our ours are opened to a whole new world. We have so much to learn, but God knew all about that, also. Just as a baby could never survive without someone to provide care, neither could we spiritually. First and foremost, we must have the Holy Spirit. We could never have survived spiritually without Him. Jn. 16:13 says, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come”. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, our guide. He opens the eyes of our understanding. But God knew that we would also need men to give us understanding in this spiritual realm. Jer. 3:15 tells us, “And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding”. Thank God for his perfect plan. He put everything in place that our spiritual eyesight would be good, that we could navigate in this whole new world into which we were spiritually born. He provided us with a spiritual mother, also. Gal. 4:26 says,
“But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all”. God’s Jerusalem today is the body of Christ, His church. Just as the Holy Spirit has been so essential to raising us spiritually, so have good saints mothered us! What God wants of us is that we grow up spiritually that we can likewise become mothers in Zion, nurturing new babes as they are born into God’s family.
