Bondage or Freedom? by Sis. Irene Spanogle

And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our LIBERTY which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: Gal. 2:4 As God’s offspring, none of us want to be in bondage. God does not want us to be in bondage. That is why he gave us freedom of choice; he wanted us to be free, to CHOOSE to serve him. We think of the words in the Declaration of Independence, that we were endowed by our creator with the right of LIBERTY. America was founded on the principle of liberty to all. Anything God is FOR, Satan is AGAINST. Pr. 5:22 says, “His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be HOLDEN with the cords of his sins”. Satan wants to keep people bound and unable to find deliverance from sin. Jesus’s purpose in coming to earth was “to preach DELIVERANCE to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at LIBERTY them that are bruised”. Jn 8:36 says, “ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”. We don’t have to be bound by sin. We can say “no” to sin. This is the liberty that Jesus‘s death on the cross bought for us. Are you living below your privileges? Can you say with the words of this song, “Once I was bound by sin’s galling fetters; just like a slave I struggled in vain. But I received a glorious freedom, when Jesus broke my fetters in twain”.
